In 2004-2005, the Ethics Commission (at that time consisting of different people than today) has analyzed the ethical guidelines and professional guidelines of numerous computer science organizations and, starting from the “Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct” of the ACM, drafted a proposal adapted to Swiss conditions.
These guidelines are intended to set standards for professional conduct for the IT professionals in Switzerland.
The current version (1.0) of the guidelines was approved by the SI Board on June 2, 2005, for publication and consultation among the members. Extensive discussions followed, and the guidelines came formally into effect on January 1, 2006, after a consultative ballot of the members of SI.
The ethics guidelines are binding for all members of the SI.
