Dissertation Prize

The computer science prize for an excellent dissertation

Together with the Swiss Informatics Society (SI), the Society for Computer Science (GI) and the Austrian Computer Society (OCG)a prize for an excellent dissertation is awarded annually.

The dissertation must be in computer science. This includes not only work that represents progress in computer science, but also work in regard to the applications of computer science in other disciplines and work that investigates the interactions between computer science and society.

Objective

The objective of the participating associations is to highlight particularly important work of young scientists in public eye and to also to be able to contribute to the transfer of knowledge between universities for technology, business, and society.

Prize Money

The dissertation prize is endowed with 5,000 EURO.

Publication

The dissertations proposed by the committee will be presented at a colloquium by lectures of the doctoral candidates and published in a summary in an anthology entitled “Excellent Informatics Dissertations.” The prize-winning work will be particularly honoured in the introduction to the book.

Award Ceremony and Announcement

The award ceremony takes place at the annual meeting of the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V., the’INFORMATIK 20XX’, by the president of the associations. In addition, an appreciation of the work is published in the Informatik Spektrum.

Submission and Selection Procedure

Proposals for the GI dissertation prize are submitted by  universities for applied science in the Federal Republic of Germany, in Austria, and in Switzerland, which all have the  right to award doctorates in the field.
